If you want to get technical about it, isn't EVERYTHING disposable?
But from my experience digging in the landfill of a historic military hospital/TB sanitarium, I can say that there are things that are disposable now that did not used to be disposable, and I'm pretty sure that's one of them. A former nurse told me that they used to reuse needles so much they had to resharpen them... and then test them on themselves.
